WGBH and the City of Boston present a special preview and discussion of AMERICAN EXPERIENCE’s Freedom Summer, from acclaimed filmmaker Stanley Nelson (Freedom Riders, Jonestown, The Murder of Emmett Till). It is the story of how over ten memorable weeks in 1964 known as Freedom Summer, more than 700 student volunteers joined with organizers and local African Americans in a historic effort to shatter the foundations of white supremacy in Mississippi, then one of the nation’s most segregated states.

Following the screening, WGBH’s Callie Crossley (Under the Radar with Callie Crossley, Beat the Press, Basic Black) will moderate a discussion with Stanley Nelson and special guests:
Bob Moses, field secretary for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and co-director of Freedom Summer
Dave Dennis, field secretary for Congress for Racial Equality (CORE) and co-director of Freedom Summer

Tickets are free, but RSVP is required. For more information about this film, visit https://www.eventbrite.com/e/wgbh-and-the-city-of-boston-present-freedom-summer-tickets-11701961883
