Portrait of a City: Call to Artists

The Boston Art Commission invites Boston artists to submit artwork for consideration to be distributed by Mayor’s Office to visiting diplomats and distinguished guests

Request for Proposals



  • Artwork will be purchased by edition with an initial purchase of up to 30 editions
  • Artwork should capture some aspect of contemporary life in Boston
  • Artwork should be two-dimensional, in any medium
  • Artwork should be able to be framed at a standard size up to 24”x 36”
  • Artists may submit up to three works for consideration
  • Artists should submit pricing per edition
  • Top candidates will be selected by the Boston Art Commission with a final decision made by a public vote on www.publicartboston.com
  • Deadline: April 7, 2014
  • Artist must live in the City of Boston and must be at least 18 years of age


Interested artists may email entries to art@publicartboston.com with “Portrait of a City” in the subject line

RFP Submission Checklist:

  •  CV with current contact information, including:
    • Name
    • Address
    • Phone
    • Email address
    • Website
  • Up to 3 clearly labeled JPEG images of submissions
  • Image List
  • Pricing per edition
  • Optional: artist statement, additional support material, including press clippings or other relevant information on past projects (1 PDF file maximum)
